Risky Business: Risk Management in Student Opportunities is a two-day interactive training session designed to give students’ union staff the confidence and skills to handle risk effectively.
To bring real-world insights to the conversation, we’ve partnered with Howden Insurance, whose expertise in insurance and risk management helps participants understand how to apply risk management in real scenarios.
Who’s it for?
This training is ideal for SU staff new to student opportunities, particularly coordinators and early-career managers, who want to understand risk management and apply it practically in their roles.
What’s covered?
This training will equip participants with practical tools and real-world case studies to enhance their risk management skills. Participants will gain the confidence and knowledge to implement risk-aware strategies effectively.
We cover:
The Basics – Understand what risk management is and how to apply it.
Systems & Responsibility – Learn where responsibility for risk lies within your students' union and university, and how to navigate it.
Student Engagement – Discover ways to make risk management engaging and accessible to students, ensuring they take it seriously.

A clear understanding of risk management principles and terminology.
Practical strategies to simplify risk management systems within their SU.
The confidence to support students in risk management and ensure they take it seriously.
