Endsleigh and Organised Fun partner on new risk management training

I know that student opportunities can be ‘risky business’ but that shouldn’t stop great things happening - that’s why we’ve developed training to give coordinators and early managers a solid introduction to risk management in student opportunities.

Organised Fun, in proud partnership with Endsleigh, presents ‘Risky Business: Risk Management in Student Opportunities,’ our new two-day, in-person training programme.

When I began my career as societies coordinator in a students’ union, I was tasked with ‘revolutionising’ our risk management systems for student groups. To cut a long story short, there were no systems, no risk assessments and no training. I wasn’t revolutionising anything - I needed to build from scratch!

Student opportunities feature highly on most students’ union risk registers and are often viewed by our university colleagues as wildly out of control and uncontainable. We’ve got ourselves into a bit of a pickle with over-doing it on paperwork and sometimes making our risk management systems inaccessible. If it’s tying you up in knots as staff, it’s definitely not working for your students.

I’ve drawn on the approach I began with years ago as a coordinator to shape this course. The goal: keep the systems simple, make the training fun, and collaborate with students to make it work.

Our training focuses on three key areas:

  1. The Absolute Basics: What is risk management? How do you do it?

  2. Systems and Sign Off: Where does responsibility for risk lie in a students’ union and university, and how do you navigate this?

  3. Student Engagement: Helping students to understand the ‘whys’ and the ‘hows’ and ultimately getting them to take risk seriously (in a fun way, of course)

In partnership with Endsleigh, we’ve developed a focused training program featuring real-world case studies and scenarios for you to dive into. By the end of the training, you’ll be more confident, risk-aware, and ready to make risk assessments cool!"

The training will take place on 11th and 12th November at Nottingham Trent Students’ Union and costs £300 per trainee. With only 20 spaces available in the first cohort, we’re limiting participation to two spots per students’ union. Bookings close on 23rd October.
