The Extra Mile Award

“Even without the tragic loss of his wife, Adam's dedication to societies is remarkable. It's heartwarming to hear how his committee and society friends supported him during a difficult time.”

Adam Parsons from Christ Church Students’ Union

What do they do?

Adam is the current president of 3 active societies; Pool and Snooker, Student Minds and Self Defence and Wellbeing. Adam also sits on the Executive Committee for societies at the students’ union and is on hand whenever the Union require his support or challenge.

What barriers to getting involved have they overcome?

This year, Adam sadly lost his wife after a long battle with cancer. As her sole carer, Adam worked a full-time job, part-time study and ran successful societies.

This year, despite all of his personal barriers, Adam organised the first society varsity for pool and snooker, countless events as well as trips abroad for his members. He is an inspiration to many and a friend to all.

How has being involved made a difference to their life?

Adam has spoken to the Sabbatical Officers at Christ Church about how being in societies has kept him going through the last few years of nursing his wife. It gave him a reason to get up in the morning and something to look forward to. When his life was changed dramatically, the society members and committee rallied around him, as he had built a wonderful and supportive community.

Adam dedicates much of his time to fundraising in memory of his late wife, Jenna. To support his fundraising and find out more about his current challenge, click here.
